What Is MonaLisa Touch Laser Treatment?

Women go through many changes throughout life, and that extends to the reproductive system. Natural stages and events such as menopause, childbirth, and other hormonal fluctuations can significantly affect vaginal health and comfort. Many women experience dryness, itching, burning and bladder leakage as they go through these processes. Some women may avoid mentioning these uncomfortable symptoms to their doctor, even though these issues can often be solved with nonsurgical and nonhormonal treatments.

The MonaLisa Touch Laser Treatment is a procedure we perform at our Mile High OB/GYN center in Thorton, Colorado. This short, nonsurgical laser vaginal rejuvenation procedure initiates tissue regeneration in the vagina, relieving pain and reviving the area.

Who Is This Treatment For?

The MonaLisa procedure involves inserting a fractional CO2 laser into the vaginal canal. The laser delivers nonpainful micro-dots to the vaginal wall and external genitalia. These dots will generate new collagen, elastin and vascularization, producing immediate and long-lasting results. Some women start experiencing relief after just one round of treatment.

We typically see this type of vaginal discomfort in women who have recently given birth or are entering menopause, although it can happen at any age. The leading cause of symptoms like these is vaginal atrophy, or atrophic vaginitis, which occurs when the body has low estrogen levels. We also use the MonaLisa Touch procedure to treat vulvar conditions, such as lichen sclerosis, and for women who otherwise need non-hormonal vaginal therapies.

The Benefits of the MonaLisa Touch Laser Treatment

This treatment offers some immediate advantages, including a fast procedure time and a short recovery period. The painless, in-office procedure takes about five minutes per session. You can return to the office every six weeks for a total of three treatments. The side effects are minimal, and by the end of the 18 weeks of treatment, you should notice a marked reduction in symptoms.

After that, you’ll receive maintenance treatment once each following year, and you’ll be free to live your new, rejuvenated life.
