Many women are looking for new and innovative methods to maintain their health, and that includes vaginal health. Various treatment options are available, including surgery and hormone replacement. However, these procedures can be risky and invasive and aren’t accessible to everyone. Instead, women might seek out vaginal rejuvenation services to reclaim their youth and feel healthier.
What Is Vaginal Rejuvenation?
Vaginal rejuvenation, sometimes called feminine rejuvenation, is a procedure that tightens the vagina, eliminates dryness and improves the overall effects of childbirth and aging. It refers to any corrective procedure to improve the appearance and function of the vagina. Many of the effects of aging and the lasting effects of childbirth on the vagina can be reversed with the right treatment.
Vaginal rejuvenation isn’t limited to just one type of procedure. Certain creams or injections can improve the quality of a women’s orgasm. Surgeries and laser treatments aim to tighten the vagina and improve its appearance. Anything that alters that vagina’s anatomy is considered vaginal rejuvenation.
Regain Your Comfort, Confidence and Sexual Health
Vaginal health is just another part of maintaining a happy and healthy lifestyle. Every woman goes through life stages that force her body to change in ways she might not expect. Having a child, going through menopause and experiencing hormonal fluctuation are all natural stages that affect vaginal health and comfort. It’s not uncommon for women to experience uncomfortable symptoms when these life events occur, including:
- Vaginal dryness
- Vaginal burning
- Pain during sex
- Pain during urination
- Urinary incontinence
- General vaginal discomfort
- Bleeding or unusual discharge
- Frequent urinary tract infections (UTIs) or yeast infections
Many women are not asking their doctor about these symptoms that might be resolved with non-surgical, non-hormonal treatments for better overall quality of life.
Luckily, there are alternatives to invasive surgical or hormonal treatments to improve these uncomfortable and painful symptoms. The Women’s Health Group is proud to offer a new laser therapy for the treatment of vaginal symptoms called MonaLisa Touch.
Is MonaLisa Touch For Me?
Vaginal discomforts such as dryness, itching, burning and bladder leakage are all common symptoms that can occur during menopause or after childbirth. The main cause of these symptoms is often Vaginal Atrophy (also known as atrophic vaginitis). Vaginal Atrophy is the thinning, drying and inflammation of the vaginal walls due to your body having less estrogen. Symptoms commonly occur at times of low estrogen such as during menopause and after childbirth. However, women of any age may experience these symptoms, and may possibly benefit from the MonaLisa Touch treatment.
MonaLisa Touch treatment is also used to treat certain vulvar conditions such as lichen sclerosis, which causes patchy or white skin that appears thinner than normal. It may also be an option for women with atrophy who prefer to avoid hormonal treatment or are unable to receive estrogen therapy due to estrogen-sensitive cancers.
There may be other treatments in addition to or instead of laser therapy that you may be offered. For this reason, it is important to work with an OBGYN physician to be sure you are getting the appropriate treatment for your symptoms. We encourage you to make an appointment with one of our OBGYN physicians to explore all of your options. Schedule your appointment with us today.
What Can I Expect?
MonaLisa Touch is a non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation treatment that uses a fractional CO2 laser to deliver micro-dots to the vaginal wall and external genitalia. This helps restore gynecological health by generating new collagen, elastin and vascularization resulting in immediate, long-lasting results. This in-office procedure takes only 5 minutes. There is no downtime and there are minimal side effects. Typically, the course of treatment is 3 treatments every 6 weeks over an 18-week period with an annual maintenance treatment once a year. Additional treatments are determined by your physician.
Prior to the treatment, your Mile High OB-GYN physician will conduct a consultation to determine if you are a candidate for the MonaLisa Touch. During the consultation, a vaginal exam will be performed to ensure there are no contraindications to performing this laser treatment. During each session, a topical anesthetic is applied to the vulva to prevent discomfort. After the area has been numbed, a vaginal probe is inserted into the vagina and a vulvar probe is directed at the vulva, delivering a gentle laser energy. Most patients describe this process as a mild vibration and painless.
While vaginal rejuvenation can improve vaginal health and self-confidence, it’s essential to have realistic expectations. Cosmetic procedures can make some impressive changes, but they can’t restore your body to what it once was when you were 18 years old. Vaginal anatomy also differs from woman to woman. What looks perfect to you might look different to someone else, and various cultures have different ideas on what qualifies as beautiful.
When you’re choosing a vaginal rejuvenation method, be sure to do your research. Each type of procedure will come with its own risks and benefits. Consulting with a medical professional can help you determine the right option for you with the most benefits. If you are interested in the MonaLisa Touch, the professional conducting your consultation can give you all the information you need to determine if the procedure is right for you.
